I can’t believed that the first quarter of the year is almost over soon. Two more sleeps and I can officially say goodbye to March. I guess, the earth is rotating so fast because it can’t wait for my next adventure. lol!
The Rathaus or Town Hall of Forchheim. This was built in 14th–16th centuries with decors by Hans Ruhalm in 1523. In the middle is the Osterbrunnen or the Easter Fountain.
Anyway, before I sign-off for tonight and before March ends, let me share my day-trip in this beautiful town of Forchheim. This former royal city is located in Upper Franconia in northern Bavaria. This region is known as the “Gateway to the Franconian Switzerland”.
It was actually a last-minute decision when I decided to go there. Wanderlust was calling again and the itchy feet of mine won’t heal until I go somewhere. Last Thursday night, I was looking for train tickets going anywhere in Bavaria. This is the advantage of traveling in Germany because transportation is very well-provided and one of the best ways to explore the country is by means of trains.When I looked at the map, I was deciding whether to go to Bamberg or Bayreuth but since I already visited these cities, I finally decided to visit Forchheim instead. Besides, it is not too far to travel to this town compared to these 2 cities I mentioned. It took me around one hour and a half to reach there. Not that bad and it was a good choice because I love this town and its setting. That was quite an adventure for me because I was alone when I did the trip and it was also my first time to go there.

When I went out of the train station in Forchheim, I immediately asked the first local I met. I asked her where is the way going to the Altstadt or Old City or town center. I just started walking following her directions. That was the right direction because I was able to see most of the sights in the town including the Rathaus or Town Hall, Kaiserpfalz (a prince-bishop’s palace), the Martinskirche or St. Martin’s Church and more.
The weather was quite cold and gloomy that time . In fact, it also rained for almost half an hour. Since I am a girl-scout with the motto “Always Ready”, I am not afraid of the rain because I brought an umbrella with me. I still enjoyed walking at the Old Town inspite the rain. My DKNY leather boots and light winter jacket was also perfect for the weather. I also enjoyed walking at the Hauptstraße, the pedestrian precinct o the town where you can see a lot of historic buildings where cafes, restaurants, shops and bars are housed. Don’t miss walking on this area if you visit Forchheim.
After two hours of going around the town, I decided to go back to the train station to catch the next train going to my next destination, Erlangen. And yes, I actually visited 3 places that day. The last one I visited was Fürth (Fuerth) and had a short stop-over in Nuremberg to take my dinner in an Asian fastfood at the train station. It was a whole day walk and my feet was really hurting when I got home but it was all worth it. Most of all, I am happy curing my itchy feet and this virus called wanderlust. I know, I am temporarily cured for now and anytime soon, these sickness and virus will visit me again anytime and all the times!
I can’t wait for the next adventures 3 weeks from now! I guess, this is all for now folks. I have to slowly hit the sack. Tomorrow is another work day and I hope, one of these days, I can live a nomadic life visiting all the dream places I wish to visit. For tonight, I just dream that I am on the other side of the planet. lol!
